
Noah Herman, formerly Director of Treasury Services for Circle, has joined the [Fortris](/) leadership team as Chief Revenue Officer.

Prior to his role at Circle, a leading blockchain-focused financial services company, Noah ran enterprise sales and business development for the financial planning software startup Advizr.

Coming from a fintech and banking background, he is well placed to reflect on the growth of digital asset adoption in enterprise business and at an institutional level.

“Almost every single one of the major banks, and some of the largest corporates in the world, are finding ways that they can use digital assets on the balance sheet and in their commercial endeavors,” Noah says.

Fortris announces strategic partnership with BlockZero

Today Fortris and IBM announced that the companies are collaborating to leverage IBM’s industry-leading cloud cryptography and confidential computing capabilities through <a href="https://www.ibm.com/products/hyper-protect-virtual-servers/cloud" target="_blank">IBM Cloud Hyper Protect Services</a>, with the Fortris digital asset treasury operations platform.

This collaboration allows Fortris to provide its corporate users with enhanced tools to securely hold and operate with digital assets such as Bitcoin, minimizing counterparty risks and simplifying complex operations, while remaining in full control over their digital asset keys (known as self-custody).

This allows Fortris´ clients to operate with 'Keep Your Own Key' (KYOK) capability, retaining sole access and control to their crypto keys. This means, by engineering design, IBM does not have access to clients’ keys even if it is running in the IBM Cloud, so data is protected end-to-end while "in use", "in transit" or "at rest". These enhanced security capabilities help clients mitigate the risk of malicious external or internal actors manipulating workflows, viewing confidential data or getting access to digital assets, and are truly independent of whether they use the infrastructure on-premise, in a hybrid setup or in a multi-cloud environment.

Fortris joins Singapore FinTech Association (SFA)

Fortris is an enterprise digital asset management platform that spreads security across multiple levels and locations. This unique approach gives organizations absolute control over their policy management and user permissions.

Private keys are never visible to daily users, which means that access can be added or revoked by simply allocating signing rights. Built to integrate directly into existing financial infrastructure, Fortris gives organizations industry-leading protection and eliminates single-point-of-failure.

Part of our internal auditing process requires regular penetration testing from external security specialists. The most recent activity was completed by leading German IT security firm, <a href="https://www.detack.de/en/" target="_blank">Detack.</a> Their reputation and experience working with other multi-national financial technology companies, made them an ideal choice to properly audit our security protocols.

## Problem

TWhen integrating cryptocurrency into daily financial operations, organizations need advanced user accounts and permissions, paired with top level security. Multi-signature technology gives organizations the ability to spread trust across various parties, while never giving complete control to one person.

However, problems arise when there is a change in the multi-signature quorum. This is a major security concern and makes traditional multi-signature technology difficult to incorporate into daily enterprise operations.

Fortris solved this problem by building a 2nd layer on top of multi-signature technology. This layer adds a level of flexibility without sacrificing security. Detack’s mission was to ensure beyond reasonable doubt that the Fortris digital asset management platform is completely secure and fit for purpose.

## Results

After an in-depth 2-month analysis, Detack tested every facet of the Fortris platform. When looking specifically into our policy engine, Octav Opaschi, Senior IT Security Consultant from Detack, said,

“Fortris uses a multi-layered approach to security, where separation exists, independently, between the customer data and the vendor data, at the physical layer, network layer, storage layer, container layer and business application layer. This makes it considerably harder for pivot attacks to succeed, even in case parts of the infrastructure are compromised. The safety of customer assets makes use of offline signatures + customer-side MFA + multiple signatures. This guarantees that only the asset holder is able to sign off transactions or transfer assets.”

The separation of the Fortris security layers creates an environment where each independent key location never trusts another location until all security measures are completely satisfied.

This inherent protection protocol ensures that any sign of malicious activity is caught and immediately contained by shutting down the system.

Fortris’ Head of Security, Liudvikas Jablonskas, said “We were impressed with the level of detail that was put into the Detack penetration testing exercise. They put our security protocols and infrastructure to the test with a thorough audit of our system.”

## Key points

• No authorization or authentication issues were found for any of the financial functionality.

• Contrary to normal multi-factor-authentication (MFA) systems, Fortris MFA is not controlled by the application, but rather by the customer.

• Complete separation of transaction functionality from data access, account balance, transaction overview or other financial functions makes it almost impossible to get access to customer funds.

External security firm validates Fortris’ protocols after full audit

Digital asset treasury operations platform Fortris has achieved System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type 1 certification, following an in-depth assessment by external auditors.

Independent audit firm <a href="https://sw-spain.com/" target="_blank">SW Spain</a> found that Fortris is operating to the best practice criteria set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

SOC 2 Type 1 is an assessment of service providers to establish that they are securely processing and managing client data. It is one of the most widely recognized regulatory compliance assessments.

Fortris named one of Europe’s fastest-growing companies

Málaga, 9 de marzo 2023 – Fortris, la empresa fintech con sede en Málaga, ha sido reconocida como una de las empresas de más rápido crecimiento en Europa en un informe especial del ‘Financial Times’.

La clasificación <a href="https://www.ft.com/ft1000-2023" target="_blank">FT 1000</a> se basa en el crecimiento de los ingresos en los primeros tres años, hasta 2021. El ranking ha sido compilado por el periódico londinense junto con el proveedor de datos Statista.

Fortris ocupa el puesto 20 de las 38 empresas españolas de la lista, y es una de las cuatro únicas empresas españolas en la categoría Fintech.

En el ranking español, tres son las empresas malagueñas que se hacen hueco, Fortris junto con Jobandtalent y Sipadan.

Este reconocimiento refleja la excelente situación de Fortris como empresa, lo cual se aprecia en el constante crecimiento de su equipo, con la creación de 30 puestos de trabajo en el último año y nuevas contrataciones planificadas para este 2023.

Como parte de su compromiso con el sector tecnológico de Málaga, Fortris es patrocinador en diferentes eventos en la ciudad.

Este año será co-anfitrión de la conferencia internacional <a href="https://www.advancingbitcoin.com/enterprise/2023/" target="_blank">Advancing Bitcoin Conference: Enterprise Edition</a>, donde se ahondará en el uso de Bitcoin en negocios y empresas. Tendrá lugar en Málaga los días 14 y 15 de septiembre de 2023, en el Gran Hotel Miramar.

Para ser incluida en esta lista, cada empresa debe cumplir ciertos criterios, entre ellos:

- Ingresos de al menos 100.000 euros generados en 2018
- Ingresos de al menos 1,5 millones de euros generados en 2021
- La empresa tiene que ser independiente (No puede ser una filial o sucursal de ningún tipo)
- El crecimiento de los ingresos entre 2018 y 2021 es principalmente orgánico (es decir, estimulado "internamente")
- La tasa de crecimiento media mínima requerida para ser incluida en el ranking este año es del 36,2%.

Fortris has again been recognized as one of Europe’s fastest-growing companies in a special report by the Financial Times.

The <a href="https://www.ft.com/ft1000-2024" target="_blank">FT 1000 ranking</a> is based on the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in revenue over the period 2019 to 2022. It was compiled by the London newspaper along with German research company Statista.

El ranking FT 1000 se basa en la tasa compuesta de crecimiento anual (CAGR) de los ingresos durante el periodo comprendido entre 2019 y 2022. Ha sido elaborado por el periódico londinense junto con la empresa alemana de investigación Statista.

Fortris chooses Málaga for its global headquarters
